Useful Things Linux Can Do that Windows Can’t

Useful Things Linux Can Do that Windows Can’t

With the recent partnership between Microsoft and Linux, the list of things that Windows cannot do has been shortened a bit.
The partnership brought bash integration into the Windows operating system, which has given users a convenient way to
access the shell whenever they want. In short, that means you don't even need Linux to access the shell instance of your
version of the Linux operating system.
We argue, however, that a Windows machine that acts like Linux is not yet a Linux box. There are still some things that make
more sense in Linux. Linux can be used in creative ways, so don't limit yourself to your suggestions. Here is our list of things
that Linux does, not necessarily much better than Microsoft, but in a different way.
Useful Things Linux Can Do that Windows Can’t

Free and open source

Upgrade to the latest version without paying extra money. Get the latest security updates and cool new features without having to pay for it.

No long updating time and reboot

Linux distros are seamlessly updated. Usually, you do not have to reboot every time you download the latest updates.
The restart time is not affected when it is updated. So like windows, you don't have to sit for hours just waiting for your system to start,
just to copy your favorite movies from your phone or USB.
Update every software on my system with a single action. This is one of the main reasons why I run Linux. Sure,
Windows has Windows Update, but it only updates the operating system, Office and some other things.
For every Linux distribution I've used (Gentoo, Red Hat, Suse, Ubuntu), the update is simple. When you update,
you have every application, every library, every script - every software is automatically upgraded for you. And on most of them,
they will automatically check for updates and notify you. This is good for security, fixes bugs quickly and gets the latest with features.

Stability and reliability

As mentioned earlier, Windows requires users to reboot their computer after installing updates.
Computers running on Linux can technically continue to run without rebooting and without problems for years.
It is rare for a Linux system to freeze or slow down. While with Windows, if you are running too many applications or have too
many browsers open at the same time, it is more common for your computer to freeze.
When it freezes, if you have not saved what you have been working on, you will lose it. The only way to defrost a system running
on Windows is to manually stop the task that is causing the problem.

Allow multiple users simultaneously

Several users can log in and use the computer simultaneously. e.i. Run programs or commands in the terminal using super users.
These features are mainly used on servers.

Better support

One of the many benefits of open source systems is the availability of finding solutions to their issues or problems in the user community.
If you are looking for an answer to a question on your Linux system, search online for a thread about your specific problem.
If you can't find one, start a new thread in a Linux forum. You will receive a detailed response at no cost.

No fragmentation problems.

You do not need to worry about hard disk defragmentation when installing Linux. It can work for weeks without the need to shut down or restart,
without memory fragmentation problems (which can slow down your system).

Linux operates on most supercomputers

Supercomputers are now the almost exclusive domain of Linux, with the world's 500 fastest supercomputers now running one
version or another of Linux. The customization of the operating system, together with its efficient resource management,
make it an ideal software platform for custom hardware and cluster arrays from which supercomputers are commonly built.

Privacy

Microsoft's latest version of Windows 10 has received a lot of criticism for how it collects data. All privacy settings are enabled by default.
If you are concerned about your privacy, Linux is the best solution for you. Linux distributions do not collect much about anyone, data.
Linux does not upload data or generate logs from your computer as Windows does.
And more importantly, you do not need additional tools to protect your privacy. Now that you know what Linux can do that Windows can't,
you can make a more informed decision when choosing an operating system.
